Description: Tinos, the fourth largest island of the Cyclades, is one of the largest centers of worship of the Virgin Mary in Greece. Since the Frankish conquest in 1207 - which has left an obvious influence until today - to the Turkish conquest in 1715 and the subsequent liberation and independence, Tinos has always presented a tremendous folk cultural legacy. Often called the "island of Aeolus", Tinos combines the mountain and sea, with Tsiknias peak at 685meters (1100 feet) on the one hand, and countless beaches on the other . The island presents several sites forming an increadible mosaic of tradition history and culture. To name a few, the archaeological site of Kionia with a sanctuary dedicated to Poseidon, the Xobourgo with the fortified castle of Santa Helena, the various monuments and museums, monasteries, caves and the very interesting artistic tradition of Tinos. The mild Mediterranean climate of the island, with mild winters and cool winds and several summers, makes Tinos ideal destination even for those who are fans of alternative tourism, who would enjoy to spend a day going fishing, diving and climbing . Tinos with numerous churches and their respective festivals are set up in each of them, waiting for the guests to be charmed by celebrations and expect guests from everywhere to offer them plenty of wine and rich traditional dishes. Access to the island can be done by boat from the port of Piraeus.
