The Entomological Museum of Volos, is a unique museum for the country of Greece, while it is a creation of the Dr. of Agriculture Athanasios Koutroubas. Its exhibition hosts over 80,000 insects of various classes, mainly Lepidoptera belonging to more than 35,000 species and classified according to the international rules of Systematic Entomology.
What is the most impressive exhibit of the Entomological Museum of Volos?
Among them are rare species of insects from Greece and all over the world, while the exhibit that really stands out in the entire collection, is the largest butterfly in the world, the Thysania Agrippina of South America with a wingspan of up to 40 cm.
The exhibits come from all the continents and the effort to collect them began in 1958, while it is constantly enriched with new species.
Since its inauguration in 1987, it has welcomed more than 3,000 visitors, mostly from the student and scientific community.
