The Municipal Art Gallery of Xanthi is situated in the center of the city of Xanthi, while the building that houses the gallery is a perfect example of Macedonian-Thrace architecture of the previous century. The traditional newly-renovated house dates from the middle of the 19th century and has the typical wooden carved ceilings, which were used only in the region of Xanthi.
The building belongs to the municipality since 1993 and the gallery founded in 1997. The name of the gallery is "Christos Pavlidis" and it was given to honor the local artist whose paintings were donated to the gallery after his death. On the two floors of the gallery, the visitor can see art pieces of local artists but also has temporary exhibitions of artists from other places.
Apart from the interesting artwork, a visit to the Municipal Art Gallery of Xanthi gives the opportunity to see and admire the interior of a traditional house of Xanthi.
