Limenas (: Port) of Thasos is located in the north and is the capital city of the island. The settlement serves as the seat of the municipality and has a population of approximately 3.234 inhabitants (according to the 2011 census). It is the main port of the island and the first point the visitor sees as approaching the land. Limenas connects the island with Keramoti and the mainland of Greece.
Archaeologicaly, the town of Limenas involves a great history as according to evidence of numerous excavations, it is characterized by the continuous presence of humanity since the Prehistoric era. The visitor has the opportunity to find here the Archaeological Museum, the ancient Agora (: marketplace) as well as the ancient theater, where during the summer there are performances and events.
Architecturally, it is a typical coastal town with its buildings lying along the sea. In Limenas there are hotels, restaurants, banks, and medical services while being the central town of the island all bus routes to every single spot of the island start from here.
