Agios Nikolaos (St. Nicholas) of Thassos is located in Limenas, just beside the ancient Agora. It is a structure that dates from 835 AD, a period when the island of Thasos was under the Byzantine rule, and according to the tradition, it was built on the remnants of other older buildings which were parts of the Ancient Agora.
It is not a coincidence that the church of Agios Nikolaos (St. Nicholas) is built by the coast since it honors the patron saint of the sailors. It celebrates on the 6th of December and apart from its religious significance, it is one of the major attractions of Limenas. Like most churches in Greece, it is open during the whole day and is visitable for the public.
