Markos Vamvakaris is one of the greatest figures of the rebetiko song. He became famous in Greece and abroad, especially with the sonf "Frangosyriani", while he was originally coming from Syros. The museum of Markos Vamvakaris is located in Ano Syros and is housed in the two-storey house where he was born in 1905 and lived the first years of his life.

The museum displays photographs, musical instruments, manuscripts with lyrics, as well as personal belongings, including his ring, watch and ID, and even his clothes and shoes.
The museum is open daily morning and afternoon during the summer months. In memory of the great artist, the local authorities organize every summer a folk music festival entitled "Music journeys in the streets… of Markos", which has a huge success.
