The Bouboulina Museum

Spetses Museum

The house of a female admiral who spent her big fortune to build ships that she later led victoriously against the Ottomans during the Greek Revolution.

Being her home-island, Spetses is the most appropriate place to have a museum about Laskarina Bouboulina. It is housed in her own house, a 300 years old building, located only 100 meters from the port of Ntapia.

The museum was founded in 1992 by her descendant Filippos Demertzis-Bouboulis, in order to highlight her significant contribution to the War of Independence of 1821. In the museum, the visitor can see personal belongings of everyday use, books, documents, and letters of the War of Independence. There are also paintings of saints from the Byzantine era, furniture from the 17th century, and the Florence carved ceiling of the great hall.
