Kefalovriso is situated 3 kilometers away from Karpenisi and is the place where one of the most important battles in the War of Independence against the Ottoman Empire took place.
On the 8th of August 1823, Markos Botsaris with 450 men from Souli attacked the vanguard of the Turkish army. The losses provoked to the Turkish army were heavy, with more than 1000 men dead. Greeks didn’t suffer many deaths but they had to retreat when their leader Markos Botsaris was killed.
An interesting characteristic has to do with the fact that it was a battle that followed modern commando operations. Today in Kefalovriso there is a statue of the commander Markos Botsaris and a monument of the battle.
The park attracts also many city inhabitants and visitors who wish to have a walk, to train or just relax in this very calm area.
