It opened its doors in May 2010 having as a main goal to register, protect, and represent the cultural evolution of the local population throughout the centuries.
The museum is housed in the old hospital building which closed in 1990 and after many restorations and transformations, turned into the new archaeological museum.
The exhibits cover a period from the Prehistoric and Palaeolithic era until the Late Antiquity. The artifacts of the exhibition follow a chronological order and they are separated in themes. They focus on human behavior related to trading, economy, cosmetics, worship, and death.
The museum is well-known for a contemporary learning approach both for kids and grown-ups that can make the visit to the museum a very interesting experience.
