Arachova - Panygiraki Panygiraki
Fair of Arachova
Panygiraki is one of the most interesting festivals in the whole Sterea Ellada region. It takes place during the celebration of the patron saint of Arachova St. George and lasts three days. Most of the celebrations take place at or near the church of St. George, built in 1676 on the higher spot of the village. The number of people taking part and the amount of traditions, folk dances and local traditional songs show the importance of those celebrations to the local community. You will experience events like the dance of elders, wrestling, shot put and tug of war that come directly from the Byzantine era and some of them have roots in ancient Greece.
