Byzantine Museum of Fthiotida, Ypati

Museum near Lamia (24.2km ≈ approx.)

On the first floor of this museum, there are items from the Paleochristianic period, and on the second artifacts from the Byzantine times.

The Byzantine Museum of Fthiotida prefecture opened its doors in 2007 and presents all the important findings from the Byzantine period of the area. It is housed in the renovated buildings of barracks, which was built in 1836, a period when the Greek borders of the time were passing through here.

The exhibition area covers two floors and the items of the museum come from the broader region of Fthiotida. On the first floor, there are items from the Paleochristianic period, while the second floor hosts artifacts from the Byzantine period. A specially designed room includes a large part of the coin collection of Konstantinos Kotsilis. That involves coins from ancient Greece, Rome, and the Byzantine Empire, as well as coin matrixes used in the Mint of Ipati in the 13th century.

The museum organizes plenty of events and it was awarded as one of the five most active museums of Greece by UNESCO.
