Kamariotissa, Samothraki

Samothraki Settlement

During the last decades, it evolved to become the largest settlement of the island with an approximate population of 1000 inhabitants.

Located at the west side of Samothraki it is the biggest port of the island and the only official entry point for everyone who visits the island.

The name of the settlement comes from the local church where is kept the icon of the Virgin Mary of Kamares. Additionally, it is the area that hosts many restaurants cafés and clubs and consequently is the cosmopolitan heart of nightlife, especially during the summer months.

Here at the harbor area there is a statue which represents a Modern Nike of Samothraki, in order to indicate to the visitors that this is the place where the statue that is hosted currently in Louvre actually belongs.
