Peristeri (Pigeon) Cave

Methana Experience

An unexpected cave 50 meters from the road with a water source and two underground ponds. Getting there is a bit tricky and needs attention.

This beautiful cave totally wild which means that people visit it with their own responsibility, as the sign of the club "Arsinoe" is informing at the entrance.

The cave is ancient, aged 2.5 million years, and was discovered in 1973. It consists of three chambers, two with water and one filled with rocks. The composed underground lakes have cold water but also some rocks, so someone needs waterproof shoes in order to swim in it. Proper walking shoes will also be needed to walk down the rocky cliff and reach the lakes.
