The Yeni Mosque is the only mosque surviving in Edessa as the rest have been destroyed.vIt was built in 1904 by Hasan Fehmi Pasha who covered all expenses, while at that time was the sixth mosque in the city.
In 1937 it became a preserved heritage monument and during the German occupation, in 1942, it became a museum. Today it is used as a repository of archaeological discoveries. Its architecture is influenced by Byzantine architecture, and more specifically from the magnificent Hagia Sophia church of Istanbul.
