Ioannina - Archaeological Museum of Ioannina Archaeological Museum of Ioannina
The museum started being built in 1963 under the supervision of the distinguished Greek architect Aris Konstantinidis. The building was ready in three years but the museum opened its doors in 1970. It has been the seat of the Ephorate of Classical and Byzantine antiquities for a long period of time and the permanent exhibitions had been modified several times due to additional exhibits. In 2002 there was a major renovation, both on the inside and the outside that renewed the image of the building and created more space for displaying exhibits. There are seven rooms with 3.000 exhibits that cover all periods of Greek history. The majority of the exhibits come from excavations in the region of Hepirus, presenting the history of the region in the best possible way making you understand the progress and development of the society.
