The church of Agia Marina is located at the Modi village approximately 75 kilometers from Thessaloniki. It is built at the entering point of the green valley of the straits of Rentina at an area that has a characteristic natural beauty.
The structure dates from 1869, while it was erected by famous Greek craftsmen coming from the region of Epirus. Architectonically, it is a single-aisled Byzantine church with a dome, while the whole exterior (including the dome) is covered with slate which gives a traditional "rocky" notion that fits with the beauty of the surrounding environment.
According to the legend, the church was built at this specific spot after the visit of Agia Marina to the priest of Modi village papa-Themeli . There she ordered him to find the icon of hers in a trunk of a tree and then build up a church in order to store it exactly at the same spot where the priest's field was located.
