Since the majority of the people of Naxos are farmers and make their living breeding livestock, the island has many local products and delicious meat.
Some of the most well-known products of Naxos are the great variety and the different types of cheeses. the" Gruyère cheese of Naxos", parmesan cheese "Arseniko" and "Ladotiri" a type of spicy cheese that is made of and preserved in olive oil.
Another famous product of the island is the local potato production as well as (on a smaller scale though) the sweet potato. The quality and the taste of the Naxos' potato is well known in every single corner of Greece.
Some other well-known dishes are the pastitsio with pumpkin, "sefouklotes", the pies stuffed with greens, "giahnada" a dish made by summer vegetables and the "rosto", a meat dish with tomato sauce. Local sweets are based on the local production of citron, while they are mostly found either as "spoon sweets" or as liqueurs.
