In a short distance from Adamantas the settlement of Plaka is located. It is the capital of Milos and one of the most picturesque settlements in the Cyclades. It stands for its cobbled streets and white houses with the distinctive Cycladic architecture that composes a unique image.

What is the meaning of the name Plaka, on Milos island?

The literal meaning of Plaka in the Greek language is flattened stone. The name of the settlement, which was founded in 1800 after the destruction of the old town, derives from this word and is related to the fact that it was built on a completely flat site.

The Venetian Castle of the 13th century dominates the landscape of Plaka. The castle offers a unique view and is one of the most beautiful sunsets in the Aegean. The churches of the settlement are also of particular interest, with Panagia Thalassitra, Panagia Korfiatissa, and the small catholic church of Panagia of Rhodes standing out.

In Plaka the visitor can find many accommodation choices and entertainment options, which cover a wide range of preferences.
