The Natural History Museum of Crete is a side project of the University of Crete, covering all activities and educational purposes of a modern museum.
The growth of the museum over the past decade shows the need recognized by the population to be properly informed about the environment. Among others, during the visit, someone will have the chance to see "Deinotherium" a gigantic animal that lived in Crete 9 million years ago. There is also the "earthquake simulator" where the visitors can safely experience different types of earthquakes.
Small children can enjoy their time in an area specially dedicated to them where they can learn about the ecosystem of the Mediterranean, the evolution of species, ecology, paleontology, and many other interesting facts.
