The Ancient Arkesini is located near the village of Vroutsi and the access to the archaeological is possible only through a path. The location is called Kastri and is one of the most impressive areas in Amorgos, since it offers spectacular panoramic views of the Aegean Sea and its islands. Parallel to that is hosts the chapel of Panagia Kastriani (Virgin Mary of the castle)
Ancient Arkesini is one of the three island settlements of the antiquity. The ancient acropolis of the city is built on a defensive site where the rock is carved in order to reinforce the spot. The settlement dates from the Cycladic era (4th millennium BC) while it was an Ionian colony under the leadership of Naxos.
The site has significant archaeological value as the ancient tower of the Trinity (Agia Triada) is considered the as one of the best-preserved monument of the 4th BC century (Hellenistic period) in the Cyclades.
