Archaeological Museum of Olympia

A wondrous museum that hosts Hermes of Praxitelis and other magnificent statues from Zeus Sanctuary and birthplace of the Olympic Games, Olympia.

Undoubtedly the Archaeological Museum of Olympia is one of the most important museums in Greece. It presents the evolution and the status of one of the most important sanctuaries of antiquity that was dedicated to Zeus and was the foundation place of the Olympic Games.

What are the exhibition items of the Archaeological Museum of Olympia?

Invaluable archaeological findings compose the exhibition that stands for statues, sculptures, the collection of bronze objects including figurines, weapons, and votive items. It also includes some pottery items which are famous for their construction technique.

The building complex that houses the museum was inaugurated in 1982 and includes 12 exhibit rooms as well as a number of ancillary areas, such as refreshments and souvenir shops.

Parallel to the public spaces, the storage spaces and the maintenance laboratories of the museum are developed, which from the first moment of their construction played a huge role in the operation of the archaeological area.
