Thessaloniki - Rotonda Rotonda
St Georgios church
Rotonda belongs to the cluster of buildings of Galerius, like the Arch, the Palace and Octagon. It was built by Galerius around 300 AD as a Mausoleum, but it was turned into a Christian church in the end of the 4th century. From 1590 since the liberation of Thessaloniki in 1912 it was used as a mosque and after the big earthquake of 1978 it was turned into a museum. It is a round building with a 24 metres diameter and the guest can see mosaics and some very rare murals. The entrance is free and you can visit it every day.
