Kavala - Monastery of Panagia Eikosifoinissa Monastery of Panagia Eikosifoinissa
Panagia Eikosifoinissa is a very impressive monastery built on Paggaion mountain, 55 kilometres away from Kavala. It is considered to be of great national and religious importance because during the War of Independence, as well as the Balkan and World Wars, helped Greeks win every time. In the monastery you can see many rare paintings of saints, relics and hand scripts that can be found in its big library. It has 150 rooms for monks or nuns and, nowadays, it is a convent, so only women are accepted to stay for a few days if they wish to do it. Many guests visit the monastery every day from Greece and abroad.
How to get there: You can go to the monastery with a car or a KTEL bus.
