Karpenisi - Kefalovriso Kefalovriso
Kefalovriso is 3 kilometres away from Karpenisi and is the place of one of the most important battle in the War of Independence against the Ottoman empire. On 8 August 1823 Markos Botsaris with 450 men from Souli attacked the vanguard of the Turkish army. The losses of the Turkish army were heavy, with more than 1000 men dead. Greeks didn’t suffer many deaths but they had to retreat, when their leader Markos Botsaris was killed. A world novelty is the fact that it was the first battle in the global war story with the characteristics of modern commando operations. Today in Kefalovriso you can see a statue of Markos Botsaris and a monument of the battle. Apart from that you can Sit and relax in a very calm location.
