Athens - War Museum War Museum
Polemiko Mouseio
Greece was always a place of war, probably because of its strategic location in the Mediterranean sea and the Balkan region. In 1975 a War Museum opened its gates in order to gather and show war artefacts as well as study and present the war history of the Greek nation from antiquity until today. On the ground floor you can see on of the largest collections of guns, donated by the Officer of Artillery Petros Saroglou. The exhibits of the museum start from the Neolithic period and reach today’s guns, medieval defensive armour, canons and many personal artefacts of a soldier. You can also see plans of war, maps and a library with almost 20.000 books. The building of the museum is designed according to the modernization movement of the ‘50s and is one of the landmarks of the city of Athens. Despite your feelings about war, you can visit the museum every day (except Monday) and learn interesting things about the history of war in Greece.
How to get there: The Museum can be reached with the metro, "Evaggelismos" station, and with trolley bus, lines 3,7,13 Rigillis stop.
