Acropolis Museum

Athens Museum

This award-winning museum hosts findings and artifacts from Acropolis and its buildings, as well as from other areas of ancient Athens.

Acropolis Museum is the most popular and definitely the most modern museum in Greece. It opened in 2009 and welcomes approximately 10.000 people daily. It was designed by the famous architect Bernard Tschumi, who was inspired by the clean lines of the Parthenon and the light of ancient Greece.

The museum is built around a nucleus with the exact dimensions of the frieze of the Parthenon, in which someone can find all the exhibitions. The 14.000 square meters of the exhibition halls are divided into four levels and the visitor can walk around the 4.000 exhibits that were found in the Acropolis area. They cover a very large period of time, showing the progress of the society and the progress of art in ancient Greece and especially Athens.

In the museum, there is a restaurant and a cafeteria with a magnificent view of the Parthenon and the city of Athens, as well as a gift shop. The museum of Acropolis has received several awards and is considered to be one of the best museums for someone to visit.
