Amorgos - Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa
The most important monument of the island, the monastery of Panagia Chozoviotissa which is the patron of Amorgos. It is built among the rocks, with a length of 40 meters and a width of 5 meters and is visible only from the sea. It is assumed that it was built in 1017 and its name is due to paraphrase of the name of the city monastery "Choziva" or "Koziva".

The monastery has eight floors, which are connected by narrow staircases, carved on the rock, and here one can reach after climb 350 steps. Within are two inscribed images of the Virgin and a cherubs dating to the emperor Alexios Komninos, while two cells of the monastery used as showrooms exhibiting significant relics as sacred vessels and vestments, gospels and precious manuscripts dating from the 10th to the 19th century. The monks' cells are also carved into the rock, making the monastery a unique example of folk architecture.

The monastery of Panagia Chozoviotissa celebrates every year on November 21 which is set up a great feast.
