The Holy Cathedral of St. Nicholas is located in the center of Alexandroupoli, Square Metropolis. The construction begun in 1898, when even the city of Alexandroupolis was still named Dedeagatch, by architects and craftsmen who came from Constantinople and with money raised from a residents fundraising. The design of the church is cruciform with a dome, the temple is made of gray marble and is identical to the temple of the Church of the Holy Trinity Stavrodromi of Constantinople. The top of the iconostasis is the work of artist P.G.Pergaminelli of Mytilene.
