Rio-Antirrio Bridge

Attraction between Patras and Nafpaktos

A megastructure and the second connecting point between Peloponnese and the Greek mainland that would inspires awe to any passersby.

It’s a cable-stayed bridge that connects Peloponnese with the mainland of Greece. It starts from Rio and goes to Antirrio, the point where Peloponnese and the mainland reach the nearest distance between them.

The length of the bridge is 2280 meters and it is supported by four pillars. The pillars in some places reach a depth of 65 meters and from an architectural perspective, this bridge is designed with impressive strength. More specifically, it can survive an earthquake of 7,4 Richter, it can remain intact after a collision with a tanker of 180.000 tons and still stand after a hurricane.

It was finished in 2004 and it was named "Charilaos Trikoupis", after the Prime Minister of Greece who first had the idea of building a bridge on that spot. Apart from crossing the bridge with a car, someone can also walk on the pedestrian side without paying any fee.
