Mount Olympus Marathon

Mount Olympus Festival

A marathon only for the best of runners. It is a demanding long-distance race on uneven ground through high-altitude paths on Mount Olympus.

This is probably one of the most unique Marathons of the world that takes place on an annual basis at the beginning of September. The initial organization took place in 1986 and since then it is an event that attracts many participants and spectators. The starting point is the shelter "Bountolas" at an altitude of 940 meters and 8 kilometers away from Litochoro.

From that spot, there is a mountain path, with many checkpoints with water. The terrain changes a lot, with uphill and downhill parts. After a distance of 41 kilometers, the participants cross the finish line at Litochoro.

The participants are mostly Greeks, though during the last years there are also more and more people from other countries of the world.
