Description: With a population of 163,380 is the capital of the prefecture of Larissa is the sixth largest city of Greece. Larissa is a city of unparalleled beauty and a remarkable history, since here discovered some of the earliest settlements in Greece dating back about 4000 years. Throughout the course of historical times was a thriving city, which continued into the era of the Byzantine Empire. In the 13th century Larissa passed into the hands of the Franks to follow the Serbs, while the 1392 was conquered by the Turks. It was released in 1881 and incorporated in Greek state with the largest part of Thessaly. Today it is a bustling urban center with a huge economic boom and hosts a university and several colleges. The squares, parks and green spaces in neighborhoods, and a very active urban reconstruction, transformed Larissa into a modern European city. It is worth visiting the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of History and Folklore Arts of the city. Tour the Valley of Tempi and try the amazing local products the region, and of course raki (grappa made from grapes), which is considered one of the best in the country. Larissa can be reached by car via the National Road, and rail, with one of the regular services conducted from Athens and Thessaloniki.
