Description: Kavala is located in northeastern Greece in the region of Eastern Macedonia. Built at the foot of the mountain Symbol is the capital of the prefecture and its strategic position made it the second largest city and second largest port of Macedonia. The total population is approximately 65,000 inhabitants and it would not be unreasonable to argue that along with the neighboring towns and villages create a metropolitan tissue with several significant influence in the region. Reports of the existence of Kavala have from prehistory through the excavation finds and crowd Homeric narratives. Also historical data show that Kavala was a distinguished member of the Athenian Alliance and is known for hosting the Roman troops who participated in the battle of Philippi. It is worth noting that Kavala was the first European city that hosted Christianity (through the Apostle Paul) and during its long history been under the occupation of different cultures (Byzantines, Turks) each left a mark through majestic works and monuments. The town is 165 km from Thessaloniki and 680 km from Athens, and can be reached through the airport, through modern Egnatia motorway, and by boat.
