With a remarkable collection of 700 paintings and engravings, its exhibits give visitors' a view of Crete's rich cultural history.

The Municipal Art Gallery of Chania is a great effort of the local authorities of the city to create a place where art could be preserved and shown.

The building was built in 1910 and has three floors. Since it opened in 2003 the gallery has presented to the people of Chania 21 exhibitions with art pieces of renowned artists and at the same time has το display substantial publishing projects.

All major events of the Municipal Gallery of Chania are accompanied by parallel exhibitions and educational programs for both children and adults. Apart from the tourists and the island visitors, the gallery attracts a significant number of the local population as well as many school classes and other groups.
